Jasper sat at the usual Cullen table. His hair untaimed, also as usual. Blue jeans and a white t-shirt covered by a black jacket was his outfit for today. He hadn't put much thought into what he was going to wear, which he was sure would probably bug Alice to no end.
That was the least of his worries for the moment. Right now, he was surrounded by tons, okay, not tons, but a lot of high school teens, who had no idea how much difficulty he was having controlling his thirst. He would need to go hunting soon, but even that wouldn't really satisfy him. He was the newest vegetarian to the family, and as such, had a much harder time controlling himself around humans.
He put his head in his hand, leaning on it as he had seen some teenagers do. They were supposed to act as human as possible, and so he attempted fidgeting. He really wasn't good at it.
He had had enough now. More students were walking in, and he was having so much trouble controlling himself. He looked around for Alice, Emmett, Edward, even Rosalie, anxious to have anyone there to keep his mind off of the blood that was tempting him so. He held in his breath, he wouldn't need to breathe until he spoke anyway, and then he would have someone to distract him.

Bella walked into the lunchroom and glanced around the room. Frowning, she made a face. Edward was away hunting, and she had hoped that he might be back by now. The more sensible part of her knew that he wouldn't, but she couldn't help hoping. She noticed the table where Jessica was sitting, but immediately crossed that off of her places to sit list. Jessica and Bella hadn't gotten along since Edward left.
Bella ran a hand through her hair, as she kept looking. She noticed Jasper sitting alone at a table and found herself walking in that direction. She knew he was the newest vegetarian vampire, but he always seemed in control when she saw him, even if he was a little bit rigid. His hair was as wild as usual, and he had the same expression on his face. Bella stutter-stepped as she tried to decide whether to sit with him or not.
On one hand, she didn't want to cause him more pain by being so close to him. On the other hand, he looked lonely, sitting at the table all by himself. Making up her mind, she continued walking to Jasper's table. She would look stupid to suddenly turn around. Besides, where else would she sit? She always had the option of sitting alone, but that would be a boring lunch. Maybe she could get to know Jasper more.
Bella sat down in the seat across from Jasper. "Do you mind if I sit here?" she asked, trying not to force his decision. She smiled a little, hopeful that he wouldn't make her move.

Jasper sat up straight at the familiar smell of Bella's blood. He had been around her enough to have her scent embedded in his memory, and could smell the girl from across the room. He ran a hand through his blond locks, not really bothering to do anything except look normal to the humans.
"As you wish," he managed to say with some of the left over breath he had been keeping in. This would not be easy. He would need to breathe to talk to the girl. He couldn't be rude, it wasn't in him. He was very gentlemanly, especially around someone he would have so much contact with.
He took a deep breath in, trying not to let his agony show, it wouldn't appear normal to the humans. Bella would know of course, but he knew she understood his particular situation.
This also would push him to actually speak, something he didn't do much with humans. Again, he knew Bella would understand, but it would be awkward. He wondered where the rest of his family was, why they hadn't showed up yet.
"Classes going well, Bella?" he asked, pushing his trey of food away from him. Who were they kidding? Both of them knew he didn't eat... human food anyway.

Bella felt a twinge of guilt as Japer replied. He had obviously been trying not to breathe, and she had ruined it for him. Why did she have to be so selfish and make it harder for him to deal with his thirst? She noticed the slight agonizing look on his face as he inhaled, and she only felt guiltier. It's not too late. I can still leave so he won't have to deal with me... Even as she thought this, Bella knew it wasn't going to happen.
Bella's eyes widened as she had an epiphany. This was the first time they were alone together! Well, besides all of the other kids in the lunchroom. Every other time there had been another vampire there, usually Alice. That brought another question into her head. Where were the rest of the Cullens? She knew Edward was hunting, so he was bound to have at least one of his family members with him, but what about the rest? Part of her wasn't too upset that Rosalie wasn't there, though.
Bella giggled awkwardly as Jasper pushed his tray of food away. He wasn't even going to pretend to eat. It didn't bother Bella at all, since she was used to eating lunch with Edward. "Oh!" she said as she remembered that he'd said something. "I guess they're going okay. They're pretty uneventful, without Edward," she sighed. She figured Jasper would know how she felt, with Alice not being there. She picked up a grape from her tray and popped it into her mouth.

Jasper took another deep breath in, slowly registering the other blood in the room to take his mind off of Bella's. He wished Alice was there with them, even if her visions were subjective, they made him feel more at ease around humans.
He nodded at Bella's words, knowing she must be very bored without Edward there. The two really were a sight. Even he had to admit that.
He tried to use his little gift to make Bella feel a little more comfortable. He hated that she looked so guilty. Afterall, it wasn't her fault that he was a vampire. It wasn't her fault that he had a harder time controlling himself than the others.
His mind went back to Alice, wishing he knew where she was. She hadn't been hunting with the others. He was never left in school alone. Rosalie and Emmett had gone, along with Edward, but Alice had stayed. Someone always had to stay if he went to school.
"I am sure Edward will be back soon. They have been gone a while." He said, still trying to use his gift. Sometimes, he wished it worked on him, he would definitely enjoy being less thirsty right now. "If you need something to do, Bella, I am sure Alice would not mind having you around." It would save me from going shopping at least, he thought the last part and smiled. He didn't really mind going shopping with her, but he was positive she would have much more fun with a female, and he knew she was fond of Bella.

Bella sighed, unsure what to say. Suddenly, Bella started to feel better about sitting with Jasper. He is a vampire, afterall. There's nothing I can do to help that. Then she couldn't help but smile. Jasper was probably making her feel this way, but she didn't mind. It made her feel like he actually might not mind sitting with her. Otherwise he could've just made her feel like she wanted to leave.
Bella nodded when Jasper mentioned that Edward should be returning soon. She knew that he needed to hunt, but she was so miserable without him. She didn't have other friends besides the Cullens, except Angela, but they didn't have classes together.
Bella smiled when Jasper mentioned bringing Alice into this. She would probably take Bella shopping or something equally not fun, but she did miss spending time with Alice. Besides, she would probably take Jasper if Bella didn't go, and she was pretty sure Jasper wouldn't want to go shopping for dresses. "That's true," she replied. "I'll head over there after school then." She sighed as she thought of the long day ahead. "Where is she, anyway?" she asked curiously. Jasper and her were always together.

Jasper looked around, feeling very alone in the vampire world. "I'm sure she would like if you came by," he said with a forced smile. The smell of everyone's blood, not just Bella's, was so tempting that he was having trouble concentrating on their conversation.
"I really have no idea where Alice is actually. Perhaps she had a vision and is trying to stop it from happening. But she should have come to get me if that were the case. I'm usually not the only one of us around. And any of us are very rarely alone, well, except for Edward of course. We don't generally associate with others."
He leaned back in his chair, not too quickly because he knew his strength, and didn't want to draw attention to himself should he accidentally break it. He had become used to making small movements to appear more human to the others in the school. Around the Cullen residence, there was usually no need.
Jasper scanned the room again, searching for a short, pale skinned woman with spiky black hair. "Have you seen her today?" he asked casually, turning his attention toward Bella.

Alice moved slowly, yet gracefully, across the school grounds. Real slow, even for a human. She was kept in during her last class, so she was rather late to lunch. What didn't help was her vision of Jasper in pain. Her teacher, thinking something was wrong, had sent her up to the office. Alice was to busy thinking about how much trouble Jasper must be having being all alone with so many humans, that she was having a hard time trying to convince Ms. Cope that there was nothing wrong with her.
She entered the cafeteria, glancing to see that Bella was seated with Jasper. Alice smiled & practically danced over to sit beside Jasper. She knew she should of gotten some food, to keep up pretenses for the humans. Yet she also knew how much pain Jasper must be in surrounded by so much human blood. "I am so sorry I am late Jasper. I got caught up in class. Don't worry though, there is nothing to worry about. You wont hurt anyone here." Turning to face Bella Alice smiled. "Bella! How are you. I am sure Edward will be back soon. But in the mean time, how about a little shopping to kill some time. I know a great shop with just the perfect dress for you."
Glancing around, Alice smiled at Jasper & Bella " I guess I should get some food. For there sake", she said glancing at the nearby tables of students.

Bella noticed that when he smiled, it seemed a little strained, but she didn't comment. Of course he would be feeling stressed. He wasn't sure if today would be the day he would finally snap and attack a human. Bella had faith in him, but it helped when Alice was around to make him feel better. Alice always reminded Jasper that he wouldn't hurt anyone, but Bella wondered if her visions ever showed him attacking anyone. Bella supressed a shudder.
Bella listened to Jasper's short speech with a small grin. She had caught his comment about Edward being the only one alone with humans. She certainly hoped that she was the only human he was alone with, but she wouldn't blame him if she wasn't. Jasper leaned back in his chair while Bella continued eating her grapes. She wasn't very hungry, but it gave her something to do to keep her busy.
Just as Jasper was asking if Bella had seen Alice that day, Alice appeared beside him. She couldn't keep the smile off of her face as she saw the pair of them together. They made such an adorable couple. It only made Bella's longing for Edward more profound. Bella couldn't help but make a face when Alice mentioned shopping. She thougth about it for a moment before replying. "Actually, that sounds like fun." Bella couldn't believe those words were coming out of her mouth, but she did need something to keep her mind off of Edward.
Bella slid her tray so it sat in between her and the empty seat next to her. "You can just share with me," she said with a smile. "I'm pretty sure I won't go hungry if we share." Bella knew that Alice wouldn't actaully eat anything, and even if she did, it wouldn't feel like a loss to Bella. The school food was really gross anyway.

Jasper smiled as the short vampire came over to the table he and Bella were sitting at. He tried to make his appearance less tense, but failed. He was much more comfortable now that Alice was in the same room. And the rest of the day shouldn't be too difficult, the rest of his classes were with her. Rosalie or Emmett were usually in his morning classes this year, but they were both... well, not at the school.
He looked to his mate and nodded, understanding that she would know if he'd hurt someone or not. "I was almost afraid you had gone home without me," he said, taking her hand.
He was so relieved that she was there. He had been going through so much pain with the temptation of the human blood everywhere in the cafeteria. He hadn't missed that a young woman had cut her hand on something sharp only seconds ago. His attention was drawn to it, and he was trying desperately to keep focused on the conversation.
"You really should eat, Bella," he said, his voice strained from the distraction of the fresh human blood only feet away from where the three of them sat. "Wouldn't want Edward to get worried about your health."

Alice smilled softly at Bella, pushing the tray back over. "No, it is ok. I will be right back. Jasper is right" Alice smilled at Jasper, then turned to head over to get some food. Alice couldn't help but notice how Jasper was wearing blue jeans & a white t-shirt covered by a black jacket. How ordinary! Alice would have to have a talk with him latter on. Shorly he didn't have to dress them all, everyday!
Picking up a tray Alice gathered up a small amount of food, not taking much notice of what she picked up. It wasn't like she would eat any of it. As she returned to the table she begain thinking about what else she had seen that would look great on Bella. Yet all she could seem to remember was that one dress, but she was sure there was something else.
Sitting back down she gave both Bella & Jasper a smile. "So. What did you two get up to before I arrived? Talk aboutu anything interesting?" Alice knew all the trouble Jasper had with being alone with humans, so she tried to break the tension that was clear on Jasper's face. "You ok?" she whispered to Jasper, so softly that Bella wouldn't of even known she said a word.

Bella watched as Jasper took Alice's hand, and she couldn't help but feel a little bit jealous. She tried to supress this, though, because she knew Jasper would be able to tell how she was feeling. Bella sighed when he told her she should eat. She knew that she should, but she wasn't in the mood. She just wanted Edward to come back from hunting so he would hold her again.
Bella nodded a little bit. "Yeah, I guess you're right," she mumbled, knowing they would have no problem hearing her. She picked up a carrot from her tray and started to eat it slowly. Then Alice slid the tray back in front of her and said she'd get her own food, then left the two of them alone again. Finishing her carrot, Bella picked up another. "You'd think the school could afford some better food," she sighed. She wasn't sure what to talk about with Jasper, though she didn't have to contemplate long.
Alice came back with a full tray of food. Bella smiled stiffly at Alice's question. "We were just wondering where you were, actually." Bella picked up her spoon and twired it around in the tomato soup. Bella made a face as the skin on the top crinkled together. "That's just gross," she comented, then turned to Alice. "So, when do you wanna go shopping?" she asked, surprisigly excited.

Jasper felt the tension again as Alice walked away, though she was only away for a short time. He nodded slightly in response to her question when she returned to their table. He would need to hunt later, but he didn't want her to worry about it now. She would be probing the future until the end of the day if he thought about attacking any of the humans, especially Bella, who he really did like, but she was just very tempting.
He nodded in agreement with Bella, "Just wondering where you were," he confirmed, trying to smile a little, to make her less worried. he looked at the trey of food Alice had gotten, and picked up an orange, trying hard not to laugh. He didn't really remember how it tasted, but it was funny to think that either of them would eat the fruit.
Jasper tried to look more relaxed, leaning back slightly in his chair. He ran his hands through his messy hair, and remembered what he was wearing today. He looked at Alice, knowing she had to have noticed by now. He gave her an "innocent" smile, wondering if she'd be picking out his clothes from now on.
He gave Bella a smile, "Good. You two should have a great time." He shot Alice a questioning look, "I don't have to go, do I?" he asked softly. He would need the time to hunt, maybe he could still join Edward after school.
